Charlie is the sweetest 6.5 year old rotti mix. Her favourite activities are wrestling with her 4 year old husky sister, going to the dog park and hiking the trails with mom. In 2022 Charlie partially tour her ACL. With rest and medication that healed and she went on with no issues for two years. In October 2024, she jumped out of the car at the dog park and re-injured her ACL. We gave rest and medication again, but in January 2025 after no progression and pain we did more tests.
This is when we realized she fully tore and ruptured her left ACL. The ACL cannot be surgically repaired in dogs like humans. After having a consultation with a board-certified surgeon, the best course of action is TPLO surgery. TPLO surgery is the only option, this entails breaking the bone and putting it back together with plates and screws. Recovery time will be eight weeks in the crate. But has a 95% success rate.
Medical cost paid for so far:
Dec 2024 - $250 (exam, medication)
Jan 2025 - $1,520 (sedated x-ray, ortho exam)
Feb 2025 - $488 (surgery consult, medication)
Surgical medical cost going forward:
TPLO surgery - $8-8,819
2 week check up - $85
8-10 week check up and xray - $500-550
I am an independent, single woman that hates the idea of asking for help but in this situation I just need it.
I will figure out a way to get Charlie the surgery she needs but this cost is so high and unexpected that any help and support I can get from friends and family will help relieve some of the stress I am currently feeling.
I appreciate you all for reading this and for any help you can provide.
