Many of you may remember that I started a GoFundMe for Charlie in 2020. It’s hard to find myself here again, asking for help— but I’m also incredibly grateful that we’ve made it this far together.
I want to start by saying Charlie does NOT know (yet) that I’m starting this fundraiser. Anybody who knows him knows he’s a hardworking, proud man who doesn’t like to ask for help for himself. So I’m stepping in to do it for him— because right now, he needs support.
As I write this, I’m sitting beside his hospital bed. He’s been hospitalized for several days now, and we still don’t know when he’s coming home or what the full path forward looks like. He is currently in a lot of pain, but doing his best to power through with a strength that always amazes me.
Back in 2020 when we went through this, his kidney function was around 26%. Now, that number is far lower. Despite everything, his doctors have always been amazed by his resilience, his work ethic, his strength, and his determination to get up and go even on the hardest days.
As of right now, he’s been out of work for a week and a half. And as we all know, the bills don’t stop.
My goal with this fundraiser is to relieve even a small portion of the stress he’s carrying during all of this so he can focus more on healing. Every cent raised will go directly toward supporting Charlie— whether that’s rent, food, medical bills, or ongoing treatment.
If you know Charlie, you know how easy he is to love and respect. He’s loyal, kind, and always looking out for the people around him. He always knows the best places to catch salmon and loves to share that knowledge. He brings a sense of adventure wherever he goes. And if you’ve ever shared a meal with him, you know he’s one of the pickiest eaters you’ll ever meet. I mean— he thinks plain, dry iceberg lettuce is a good snack! That’s just who he is: simple, steady, and true to himself. He takes joy in the little things in life. And right now, he needs people in his corner the same way he’s always been there for others.
