Support Charlie Brown's Surgery and Recovery Care

Donation protected
Please help Charlie Brown! As we were celebrating her fourth Gotcha Day on 6/4/25, she was hit by a car and sustained extensive injury to her right hind leg. The estimates for surgery start at 7,000 in addition to emergency vet bills, tests, medication and after care. The important part is that she is still here with us and her injury's can be treated.

I'm looking for help to contribute to her care. If you can help please do, whether financially, by sharing this or sending good thoughts. The funds would cover vet bills, surgery, medicine and recovery. On the chance anything is left it will be donated directly to her rescue. I will update here or you can see more about Charlie on my Facebook page as well.

Charlies Diagnosis
6/4/25 the accident was at about 8 at night. My dad helped me take Charlie immediately to the emergency vet on Bridge street while the others called ahead to check us in. She was bleeding from road rash and we weren't sure yet of her injuries. They did an ultrasound for internal injury's, a blood panel and checked each paw for feeling. The main concern was her back right leg, they were unsure if she had a fracture above or below her knee, below the knee could be splinted. Above the knee they couldn't splint as the weight pulling it down could cause further injury. They gave her more meds for the night, pain, sedation and anti-inflammatory, and let us take her home around 1:30am. My mom and a friend had set up crates both in my car (to take her to our vet in the morning) and in the living room so I could watch her overnight.
As soon as we got home I left a message for our vet. They graciously got her in first thing and did a thorough exam and x-rays. She had bruised gums on her right side, a good scrape under her chin, road rash on both hind legs down to the bone, bruised lungs and her leg was not broken but it has at minimum a torn ACL, and the lower leg, both tibia and fibula, had rotated making it more severe injury. She may have additional ligament damage as well as damage to her meniscus. That will require an orthopedic consult which could days or weeks to schedule. She's currently on antibiotics for the open abrasions and to avoid a lung infection, pain and sedation medication and anti inflammatory. At this point I carry her anywhere she needs to go. She is a great patient, very calm with the meds and is letting me ice her. I have called four different surgery centers for a consult and schedule surgery ASAP.

Charlie's Status
Char has been in good spirits. Her tail definitely still works and she has been full of kisses living up to her nickname the "Smoochin Pooch". I set up a temporary care center. She is happy to be home with her fur family who have been keeping a close eye on her. We are so incredibly lucky to still have her here with us.

Charlies Backstory
Charlie was adopted from Seventh Heaven Rescue in Syracuse, New York. While speaking with a Seventh Heaven Volunteer I learned about Charlie. A group of volunteers were driving from the southern US, they had a van with 10+ dogs all with homes except for Charlie. Two hours later on a Friday night I was heading home with Charlie as a foster to adopt. Within a week we made it official and Charlie became Charlie Brown, my foster fail.

Charlie is originally from Midland Texas. I adopted her at Six Months old. She goes by Char, Texas Tornado and the Smoochin Pooch. At Four and a half I'd love to get her back on four legs and keep her active. She is a wild and crazy girl. She loves to zoom around the yard and one neighbor nicked named her white lighting due to her speed. She has completed four classes/degrees with Puppy, Beginner, Advanced and Brian Games. She is currently almost through a Barkour and Explore class with cohesive canine of CNY and excelling at it and unable to finsh. She loves to learn, loves her family and is the sweetest pup. She likes to nest and sleep with under a blanket. She has the cutest howl and her doggie DNA showed 10+ Breeds in her mix.

Charlies Family
I am her mom, Laura. We live in New York and my pets are my whole world and family. Two years ago tomorrow I slipped taking out the trash and need to have my own leg reconstructed. I sympathize with Charlies pain and am still recovering financially from that as well.

Her older sister Pickle is 13.5 a Golden retriever who I swear is half human. She has truly taken Char under her wing.

Her brother Klaussen is a very vocal boy, a 5 year old cat with a huge personality. He plays tag and cuddles with Char daily.

Great news, Charlie has a date!

I found a surgeon who can get Charlie in on Friday recommended by her rescue in Long Island. They’ve had great success with taking other dogs there. All of Charlie’s records and X-rays have been sent over and they are reviewing them but unless there’s any issues they have a spot booked for here first thing Friday. Working on logistics for travel.

Thank you thank you thank! To those who have shared and donated! It means so much to have so many people reach out and check on her!

Charlie is in good spirits with interest in having her toys in the crate with her. She’s stiff and sleeping a lot but wags every time she sees me and has enjoyed being carried everywhere. I tell her she’s flying.

Please keep sharing and sending good healing thoughts to my girl!
