Charley came into this world earlier than expected—born five weeks premature due to a sudden placental abruption. In those critical moments, Charley experienced a severe lack of oxygen, which resulted in a condition called HIE (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy), a type of brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation at birth.

From the moment she was born, Charley has shown incredible strength and resilience. Her journey has involved extended stays in the NICU, ongoing therapies, and countless medical appointments. HIE affects many aspects of her development, and she faces both physical and cognitive challenges as a result—but she continues to fight every day, and her spirit inspires everyone who meets her.

The emotional and financial toll of caring for a medically complex child is enormous.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has shown great promise in helping children like Charley recover and promote brain healing. It works by increasing oxygen flow to the damaged areas of the brain, encouraging the growth of new blood vessels and reducing inflammation.

However, the cost of multiple HBOT sessions, as well as the time commitment required to travel for treatments, has made it clear that renting or paying for individual sessions isn’t sustainable. In order to provide Charley with the care she needs, we’ve made the decision to purchase a hyperbaric chamber for home use. While this is a significant expense, it will allow us to continue Charley’s therapy on a long-term basis, without the ongoing costs of renting or paying per session. Having the chamber at home will also make it easier to integrate her treatments into our daily routine, which is crucial for her ongoing progress and recovery.

The cost of the chamber, along with the other medical expenses Charley faces, is a financial strain for our family.
