Help Charles Save His Home While Disability Is Reinstated

Hi, my name is Charles, and I never imagined I’d be in this position. But life has thrown me a tough hand, and I’m reaching out with deep humility and hope.

I’ve always worked hard. For the past several years, I’ve been in the field of learning technology — helping companies implement education systems that serve thousands of learners. I’ve also spent years dealing with chronic, life-disabling mental health conditions that qualified me for SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance), which helped stabilize my life — until I was able to return to work.

But on July 7, I was laid off. My mortgage lender kindly gave me a 3-month grace period, which ends October 1, and I’m now facing the terrifying possibility of losing my home.

• I receive $300/week in part-time income.

• I’ve already been approved for Medicaid and SNAP.

• I’ve applied for reinstatement of my SSDI benefits, which I previously qualified for — but it can take months to process.

• My October mortgage payment is due, with November’s right behind it.

• I have no safety net. Every dollar I make now goes to food, dog food, and gas to get to interviews and support services.

This isn’t forever. It’s just a gap.

I’ve done all the right things:

• Applied for every benefit I can

• Taken part-time gigs wherever possible

• Reached out to social services

• Asked my lender for help

• Built a plan to get back on stable ground once SSDI is restored

But I’m out of time — and I don’t want to lose the roof over my head while I wait for the system to catch up.
