Support Charles McEntyre's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On the evening of 7/17/2025, Charles McEntyre had just enjoyed watching the sunset with two close friends from a perch atop his school bus, which allowed the most beautiful views. As the night closed and the group began to climb down from the bus, Charles lost his footing, slipped, and fell over 10 feet, landing on his back. As his friends rushed to his side, he complained of immense pain and was unable to feel his legs. Emergency services were quickly contacted, and Charles was ultimately air-lifted to the nearest hospital in Anchorage, AK. After a grueling 9-hour surgery on his back the following day, Charles was told by the surgeon that he "didn’t feel his legs when he came in and won’t when he leaves." He has endured a burst fracture of the T-12 vertebra and had fragments impinged into the cord. Although his spinal cord was not completely severed, it has been significantly damaged. At this time, Charles is paralyzed from the waist down.

Charles is a beloved partner, brother, father, and a dear friend to many. There has never been a time when he wouldn’t give the shirt off his back or anything else to help someone out. He is one of the most generous and humble humans to walk this planet. Charles has traveled to the ends of the earth not only for adventure and excitement but also to lend a helping hand when one was needed. Charles has always lived a big life, and he has touched many lives along the way with his big heart, infectious sense of adventure, and that mischievous twinkle in his eye.

It is too soon to know the outcome for Charles, but whatever it is, the road to recovery will be a challenge. There are many hurdles before him that will require a lot of work, patience, perseverance, and struggles. The journey will be long and very costly. The financial burden for his care and transfers, a week in the ICU, inpatient rehab center, outpatient rehab, the many forms of adaptive equipment that will be needed, remodeling a home to be accessible, travel expenses for his partner and sister to assist with his care, and the inability to work for the foreseeable future, are only the beginning of some of the costs that are unfolding. Please consider contributing to this GoFundMe to help Charles and his family as they navigate this difficult journey.
