My name is Charles “Alex” Cain, and I am reaching out during one of the most challenging times of my life. Recently, I was diagnosed with liver failure as a result of cirrhosis. Having recently been discharged from the ICU I’m now awaiting word on my candidacy for a liver transplant.
Over the past 20 days, I have spent two weeks in the hospital, facing not only the physical toll of my illness including rapid weight loss and extreme fatigue but also the emotional and financial strain that comes with it. As a result of being hospitalized I lost my job. I have fallen severely behind on rent putting me at risk of homelessness and have a substantial outstanding balance just in medication co-pay costs alone.
The funds raised here will go directly toward helping me cover my rent, afford food for a prescribed special diet, and pay for the catalog of medications I will now need to manage my condition. Every bit of support will help me stay housed and focus on my recovery, rather than worrying about where my next meal will come from or how I’ll pay for prescriptions.
- To everyone who reads this, I want you to know that your support means more than words can express. I pray for the strength that I’m able to raise awareness regarding my illness in my community by sharing my journey with others who are sick or may be in danger of becoming sick. I’d like to carry the message to others facing crisis that it is possible to find hope and strength. Even in the midst of uncertainty, I am holding onto faith that things will work out as they are meant to. It is also important to me that my story inspires and reminds my two young adult sons that life is precious, and to take care of themselves and one another. Thank you for considering a donation or sharing my story—your kindness truly makes a difference.
