Support Charles Kimbro's Final Service

Donation protected

I am Eric Kimbro, the son of Charles Kimbro, who transitioned from the earthly servant of God I have been blessed to call dad, on February 28, 2025, after his last breath was taken in the Palliative Care wing at Vanderbilt Hospital, comforted by his wonderful care team.

Dad was diagnosed with aggressive small cell carcinoma that reached his lungs; he was just 89 years young!

Due to financial circumstances beyond his control, no assets or insurance were available for his final expenses and Home Going. Dad's funeral service is now set for 03/22/2025.

With your help, Smith Funeral Directors, will funeralize my dad on that date with your contributions to his Home Going. Whatever amount you can give will go towards the costs of the services.

God-centered, a servant of the Most High, he served as a Pastor's Steward at St. Luke AME, Head of the Bus Ministry there and at St. Philips AME, a member of the choir, and an usher.

A gentle soul, he was born 10/12/1935, the youngest of 4 in Nashville, TN, to James and Mattie Kimbro. He attended public schools and accepted Christ at Pleasant Green Baptist Church. Dad worked for The Anchor Motel, where he met Mom, Joyce Kimbro (deceased). Dad also worked with American General and at his beloved The Harpeth Hall School, where he met the most wonderful people like The Ladies Of The Hall, the late Bishop Desmond Tutu, his daughter Nontombi Tutu & his granddaughter Mungi Ngomane - who affectionately called Dad her "grandfather" around campus.

Dad fathered 5 children, of which I am the youngest.

Dad was well attended by Zoey, Torri, The Medical Students Music Therapists, of course Doctors Rodriguez, Kimberly and Jill, Dr. Shaffer, Dr

Chang, The 5RW Doctors and Nurses, Drs. Mr/Mrs Allon and a host of many others especially the loving Nursing staff, friendly Caretakers, the prompt Emergency Response Team, Respiratory Care Team Members, Nutritional Team, both Occupational and Physical Therapists and the EVS crew, while at Vanderbilt Hospital.

Prayers from were received by him, and he embraced those prayers daily. To dad, when you prayed for him- he prayed for you & you were considered family.

Approximately 2 hours before Dad's last breaths, the Musical Therapist Torri sang melodically while playing her acoustic, the moving hymn "I'll Fly Away." Unbeknownst to dad that same day at 3pm he was to be surprised by 2 of the sweetest people he has met of the many at RITI, Directors Amanda & Maggie. Instead of 3pm they were feet from entering his room about 1pm as I called for Dad's Nurse when he breathed no more.

Not a voice fell silent as so many entered to speak of missing my dad & to console me. Zoey, with hugs and Doctorly advice to use tissue not the brown towels for my tears, Angela the Social Worker, Mona, Ian and more from the Chaplain's office were present. Thank you ALL!
