Charles Hurt (Charlie) is not just a member of Dunbar Class of 89—he’s a friend of ours, a pillar in the East Baltimore Community, and someone who has always shown up for others. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support have touched so many lives, and now, in his family’s darkest moment, it’s our turn to be there for him.
Recently, Charlie, his wife Surrita, and their family experienced a devastating house fire. While it’s a blessing that no one was home at the time, the loss they’re facing is unimaginable. In the fire, they lost their beloved dog, Brooklyn—an irreplaceable part of their family. The grief of losing a loyal companion, on top of everything else, has been heartbreaking. This isn’t just the loss of a home, but the loss of love, comfort, and memories that can never be replaced. No family should have to carry that kind of pain alone.
We are coming together as classmates, friends, and neighbors to help Charlie and Surrita's family rebuild. The funds we raise will provide them with a safe place to stay, help replace the essentials they lost, and offer hope as they start over. If you know Charlie, you know he would never ask for help—he’s always been the one lifting others up. Now, he needs us, and we want to show him the same love and support he’s given so freely.
Please join us in rallying around Charlie and Surrita. Every donation, every share, and every kind word will make a difference as they begin to heal and rebuild. Let’s show Charlie that his community stands with him, just as he has always stood with us.
