Our site would completely fall apart without the strong leadership of our security head, Charlene. I know you all are nodding as you read that. Charlene handles everything that comes through the front door. She goes above and beyond in everything she takes on. Now we have a chance to show her some support. Following a dire medical emergency and stay at Levine Children's Hospital at the end of last summer, Charlene stepped in and became the sole caretaker of her then infant granddaughter, Braxley. The response and support for Charlene has been incredible and so appreciated. From the generosity of this community we raised $6,750. We have been able to support supplies in the early days and making it possible for Braxley to get into a wonderful daycare. However, this is an ongoing situation that has seen many struggles. Here is the latest update.

At the beginning of January Charlene was rear-ended at a stoplight by a teenager who was distracted by his phone. Braxley was in the backseat and fortunately wasn’t severely harmed, but has had to have some medical attention. Charlene’s car was totaled and she has had to be out of work for over a week as she handles getting her injuries seen and treated, had an outpatient procedure done on Braxley, dealt with Braxley not responding well to the procedure and needing further treatment, as well as dealing with pushback from the person who hit her and his legal team. That is a nightmare for anyone, but for a single parent with no support system it is unthinkable and unfortunately the harsh reality many face.

Many have generously given to this fundraiser and trust me it is appreciated. Charlene is not someone who asks for anything, but she has shared with me that she just doesn’t know what to do anymore as she keeps getting knocked back down. I’m updating this account in hopes that we might be able to raise a little more to help get her through this continuing struggle. Again, the greatest thanks to all who have contributed. There’s so much heaviness in our world and it is so beautiful to see a community lift up one of our own.
