In Loving Memory of Lewis E. Winningham III
This past year has been incredibly difficult for Lewis and Charla.
Lewis endured multiple surgeries and amputations due to complications from Type 2 diabetes, which all began with a stubbed toe that became infected. He spent much of the last eight months in after-care facilities, bravely fighting infections and working toward recovery. After losing most of one foot and several toes on the other, he was finally able to return home, where he was doing well.
Just two weeks ago, Lewis suffered a heart attack and underwent another heart surgery. He was released on Friday to rest and recover, but tragically, on Tuesday morning, he suffered a massive heart attack that claimed his life.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Charla, his mother, Fran, and his sister, Lara. Most of all, he passed with his greatest joys and loyal companions—his beloved dogs—by his side. They were what gave him strength and what he most looked forward to coming home to.
Lewis will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
If you are able, please consider helping Charla during this difficult time. Any support is greatly appreciated.
