Get Well Charisse - A Journey of Recovery and Restoration

Donation protected
On March 20, 2025, Charisse suffered a massive stroke with severe swelling and bleeding on her brain. Barely conscious when found, she had already beat the odds with God on her side. In ICU for over 15 days and then hospitalized for weeks after that, it became very apparent Charisse had a very long recovery ahead of her.

Charisse was paralyzed on her left side, had partial vision, could not walk, and was very limited in her speech and ability to eat. After heart surgery, many procedures, and well over a month in the hospital, Charisse moved to several acute rehab centers to begin to regain her mobility, speech, and vision setbacks.

It has been a very long road. With some brain swelling going down and intensive therapy, Charisse has since learned how to speak better, move her limp left side some, and is making significant overall progress.

As many know, Charisse has had a long successful career in Human Resources, however unfortunately, a few months prior to her stroke, Charisse was laid off from her job because of staffing/economic cut-backs. Gratefully, her savings and left over health insurance has been covering some of her care, but that has come to a quick end. This is where your support comes in!

Insurance is no longer covering Charisse's in-patient rehab, so Charisse had to come home from the rehabilitation center, seeking ways to recover and restore herself back to health at home.

Currently, Charisse is still limp, unable to move her left side and therefore, still unable to walk; but the lack of motion is expected to improve. She still has some slight vision and speech impairments as well. Therefore, she still needs very aggressive speech, occupational, and physical therapy to recover. Additionally, she needs 24/7-around the clock care from caregivers while at home -- she cannot be left alone for any period of time.

She has now been home for one week and naturally medical bills, co-pays, as well as personal bills (rent, utilities, insurances, etc.) are still accumulating. In order to keep receiving any care, and for her not to stay in this lack of physical motion, Charisse needs substantial financial support at this time, in addition to your continued prayers.

The majority of her care is now out-of-pocket and with the help of God and the loving support of family and close friends, Charisse has made it this far. But, realistically, Charisse has at least another 9-12 months of this care. It is the hope that through various resources and the generous help of donations from others, Charisse can continue to get the help, care, and support she needs.

Your donation will help cover:

  • Out-of-pocket therapy costs
