On the afternoon of Monday January 19th, a large earthquake struck the Chapursan Valley, Pakistan, with an epicenter near the village of Zood Khun. The earthquake and its aftershocks destroyed over 300 homes and forced the local people out into the elements in the dead of winter, in a cold and desolate valley above 10,000’ on the frontier of Pakistan and Afghanistan. These people already lived with very little when things were good, but now they are in a truly desperate situation. When I visited the Chapursan Valley in 2024, the local people showed me the warmest, kindest, and most welcoming hospitality I’ve experienced anywhere. Now that they are deeply in need, I would like to help however I can, and hope others will join me. The best way to support the immediate disaster relief efforts is a direct wire transfer to a Pakistani bank account, but since this can be complicated and prone to failure, I’ve started this GoFundMe to raise money for the rebuilding efforts that will come later.
