Help 15 Indigenous Maya Kids build an Arduino robot and have a geeky BLAST!
The Chaptops Computing Academy in Guatemala is in one of the poorest municipalities in a poor country. In fact, Tactic ranks 13th of 340. The population is 80-90% indigenous, and a very large fraction of children enter school unable to speak Spanish. We offer accredited skills courses on a scholarship basis. Our current cohort is 75% female.
Late in June, we will offer our week-long vacation tech class for needy local kids. This year, we’re launching a Robotics Workshop! Materials (Arduino Nano, servos, an ultrasonic distance sensor, a battery, a study guide – and a must-have T-shirt!) will cost about $35. We’d like to let the students keep their robots after graduation, so we’re asking for your support to make this possible for 15 students. So that’s about $500. And we’ll accept more for pizza, which is a special treat for Guatemalan kids. (Best not to judge, but they like ketchup on top.)
Here are some donation suggestions:
Innovator $35 - Provide a full robotics kit for one student, giving them the tools to learn coding, electronics, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Explorer $50 - Sponsor a student with a robotics kit plus program scholarship support, helping remove financial barriers so they can fully participate.
Engineer $ 80 - Provide full support for a student robotics team, helping students collaborate, innovate, and prepare for competitions together.
Champion $100 - Help fund a robotics competition event, inspiring students to showcase their skills, creativity, and innovation in a real-world challenge.
We will keep you updated with photos of the fun!
