My father, Chao Yang, is an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and community leader. He was admitted to the hospital on June 5th, three days before his 67th birthday, with severe anemic symptoms. A bone marrow biopsy was conducted to determine the root cause of the symptoms. He was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow cancer, Myelodysplastic Syndrome Disease, with a prognosis of 1 year to 1 1/2 years. A multifaceted treatment plan, consisting of chemotherapy, oral trial pills, and injections to increase red blood cell production, was recommended to slow down the cancer. The only cure would be a bone marrow transplant, for which he was referred to a specialist to determine eligibility.
Still grieving the loss of his 46-year-old son, my brother, to kidney disease in January of 2024, the news of his diagnosis and prognosis is devastating and surreal to him and our family. My parents' only source of income is their Social Security disability income. With increased doctor visits and treatments, my father dreads the financial burden of medical bills. This is the last thing my dad should worry about.
To help reduce my parents' financial stress during this difficult time, my siblings and I would like to ask for your generosity in giving a gift of life by donating to my dad's medical expenses while he focuses on a challenging journey ahead.
You can also donate directly via Venmo to my sister Lisa, who manages my parents' finances @LisaChung1980.
I will periodically update the GoFundMe page with my dad's progress. Please continue to check the page for updates. On behalf of my siblings and my parents, we thank you for your love, kindness, and support.
