If you know Chance, you already know he's one of the best people around. So when something like this happens, we all feel it.

This past Thursday, Chance and his buddy Chaz went on one of their usual bike rides along the Huntington Beach boardwalk something they do regularly. Chance has been making a real effort lately to ride more, stay active, and take care of his health. They started near downtown and were heading toward Sunset Beach. A completely normal day.

Chaz got a little ahead and noticed Chance wasn't behind him anymore. He turned around and found Chance on the ground with a police officer and a lady nearby. What happened was a split-second accident. Chance was riding on the right side of the boardwalk and went to pass a girl who was running. She didn't hear or see him coming, and made a quick U-turn right as he was passing. They collided, and Chance hit his head.

He was disoriented, couldn't remember what year it was, and was clearly not okay. A police report was filed, and he was rushed by ambulance to UCI for head trauma.

After scans and evaluation, the doctors determined Chance had an epidural hematoma bleeding and pressure on the brain — and he required emergency surgery. He came through, but he is still in the hospital and will be there for several more days as he recovers.

The road ahead is going to be a long one. Between the ambulance ride, the scans, the surgery, and the hospital stay, the medical bills are going to be significant — likely well into the six figures. The insurance situation is still being sorted out, and honestly, we just don't know yet what he's going to be on the hook for. On top of that, he'll be out of work while he heals.

We set this up because we love Chance, and we know a lot of you do too. Nobody should have to stress about money while they're fighting to recover from brain surgery. Every little bit helps, and even just sharing this means the world.
