Spending Christmas morning being rushed to the E.R. was not what we had envisioned for our holiday plans this year. Then being sent to the ICU at Barnes in St. Louis for the next few days was even more of a surprise. But the biggest shocker of them all is finding out that I have colon cancer.
Which is a big scary word but the good news is that all signs indicate that they found it early, and so far believe that it hasn’t spread. We will know more in the coming weeks but all signs are pointing to that it is treatable with surgery as of right now.
I’m home now and physically feeling pretty good. We are not going to let this deter us from living our lives. We are putting our trust in higher powers and in the many doctors that will be helping me on a path back to health. I’m excited for that, to feel healthy again. I realize now, that I haven’t felt good in many months.
I’ve basically spent the entirety of my professional career trying to help others. And now I guess it’s time to put the ego aside and be the one asking for help.
When I launched my businesses a few years ago I foolishly decided not to enter into any insurance plans, partly because they are so expensive and I rarely ever got sick (ironic now I guess) and partly because I have some strong opinions on insurance being a pretty big scam (again, foolishly).
As well as my wife and I do financially, without insurance and with the many appointments, hospital stays, medicines, and eventually a big surgery coming up, the hospital bills have already started to pile up. So, I ask for your help - helping us in this way is just one less stressor we have to worry about during this difficult time.
Please keep my family in your prayers.
