Support Chad Drummond's Critical Care Journey
Donation protected
On January 11, 2025, Chad Drummond’s life changed forever when he suffered a severe stroke, leaving him with right-side paralysis (hemiplegia) and unable to speak. Since then, Chad has endured three major surgeries, with a fourth upcoming, and spent 21 days in Critical Care Trauma ICU/PUC before transitioning to a Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation Center.
Despite his incredible resilience and daily rehabilitation efforts, Chad faces overwhelming challenges. He relies on a feeding tube for nutrition, requires maximum assistance for mobility and personal care, and continues to battle insulin-dependent diabetes, high blood pressure, and unknown cognitive and visual impairments caused by the stroke.
The Fight for Chad’s Care
Chad has shown promising progress, thanks to dedicated rehabilitation and the unwavering support of his brother, who provides additional therapy daily. However, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield has stopped covering his skilled nursing and rehab care, deeming it “no longer medically necessary.” The appeal was denied, and now, his care costs $502 per day, with his family shouldering the financial burden. Medicaid is not an option due to his short-term disability insurance, which only covers 3.5 days of care per month.
A Devastating Setback
While Chad was hospitalized, his home suffered a severe water leak that went undiscovered for days. By the time it was found, 90% of his belongings were destroyed and beyond salvage. This heartbreaking loss adds yet another layer of hardship to his already difficult journey.
How You Can Help
Our goal is to keep Chad in his current facility until his next surgery and then transition him to Shepherd Center Rehabilitation in Georgia, a nationally ranked facility with a 90% return-to-home rate—far above the national average. This specialized care is essential to give Chad the best chance at recovery and independence.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will make a tremendous difference in covering his care, therapy, and transition to Shepherd Center. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing Chad’s story to help us reach as many people as possible.
On behalf of Chad and his family, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this critical time. ❤️
