My little brother was the victim of a shooting that happened on Saturday, and our lives changed in an instant. He just had surgery and suffered a spinal cord injury, and right now, we don’t know if he’ll regain function from the waist down. We’re holding onto hope, but the road ahead is uncertain and overwhelming.

He means the world to me and our family. Since our father passed away, my brother and I have worked hard to keep our family afloat—paying bills, taking care of the house, and supporting each other. I’m a full-time student working two jobs, but it’s not enough to cover what he once helped with. Now, with his injury, we’re facing new challenges: he’ll need physical therapy, ongoing assistance, and our home needs modifications so we can care for him safely and comfortably.

We never imagined we’d be in this situation, but we’re reaching out for help. Mi hermano menor fue víctima de un tiroteo que ocurrió el sábado, y su vida cambio en un instante. Acaba de salir de cirugía y sufrió una lesión en la espalda (en la médula espinal). Los doctores nos han dicho que es muy probable que no pueda volver a caminar. Pero nos aferramos a Dios y a la esperanza.

Mi cesar es todo para mí y para mi familia. Desde que nuestro papá falleció, mi hermano y yo hemos hecho todo lo posible para seguir adelante como familia: pagar las cuentas, cuidar la casa y apoyarnos entre nosotros. Soy estudiante de tiempo completo y trabajo en dos trabajos, pero ya no es suficiente para todo lo que ahora necesitamos. Con su condición, vienen nuevos retos: va a necesitar terapia física, ayuda constante y también cambios en la casa para poder cuidarlo de forma segura.

Nunca imaginamos que estaríamos en esta situación, pero estamos pidiendo ayuda. Su apoyo, ya sea una donación, compartir nuestra historia, o tenernos en sus oraciones significa más de lo que las palabras pueden expresar. Nos da fuerza, esperanza, y nos recuerda que no estamos solos. Dios siempre tiene el control.
