For the past three years, I have been traveling to Rwanda to support cervical cancer screening initiatives. Through a partnership with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) and collaboration with local gynecologists and nurses, we have been working to build a sustainable system for the screening and treatment of preinvasive cervical cancer lesions. Our efforts have already led to the education of local nurses, who are now providing screening at all health centers in the district.

The next phase of our project is to educate midwives and nurses at the referral district hospitals in colposcopy, biopsy, and a procedure to treat pre-cancers of the cervix called loop electrical excision procedure (LEEP). To make this possible, we need funding to purchase two colposcopes and two LEEP machines, as well as essential materials like LEEP loops, grounding pads, biopsy tools, and consumables such as Monsel's solution, 5% acetic acid, cotton rolls, and disinfectants. These resources will allow us to expand screening and treatment, helping more women receive life-saving care and preventing the development of cervical cancer.
