support celador's new chapter

celador is a space for doing things with words.
celador was founded in 2023 by members of a reading group and is run collectively.
celador has hosted artists and writers from around the world and welcomed hundreds of visitors.
the special setting of celador, a historical private house, gives the programme a unique intimacy and proximity.

celador is self-funded: all the running costs are carried by its nine members—this is the outcome of long and careful consideration. our independence allows us to invent our own formats and ways of collaborating. the special atmosphere that makes celador derives from the organic simplicity of its economy.

as celador enters a new chapter, we want to become more sustainable and are turning towards our friends and public for support.

we are aiming to raise €17,440—the exact cost of one year’s rent.

this cost is currently covered by celador’s nine members, independent and institutional curators with modest and in some cases irregular incomes, as are all the running costs of the programme: rent and maintenance of the space, production, hospitality, invigilation, communication, and promotion. with each project, we try to create conditions of fair exchange between the guests and hosts.

your support will allow us to:
  • continue the programming of celador as you know it, with a mixture of formats and diverse guests
  • to try out new formats of activities, including a library and a publishing press
  • invest even more of our energy and means directly into celador’s programme, creating better conditions for our collaborators

the ethos of celador is to create direct connections with artists and visitors, without interference by funding bodies or political agendas. it is in this spirit that we launch this crowdfunding campaign: to continue existing through the support of our community.

every contribution matters, no matter how small - as a gesture of gratitude, we will include your name in the list of supporters, published on the website and in the space (if you don’t with to be featured please donate anonymouosly).

more about celador

celador is located in a historical private house at Avenue Jef Lambeaux 23, a listed building designed in 1910.

celador does not organise exhibitions. only events, from one evening to a few days long. the programme unfolds freely, in a different way each time, always starting from someone’s writing or reading practice. celador also hosts a writing residency and a writing group. we are currently working towards the founding of a library and a small press that would allow us to archive and circulate texts that have been produced at celador.

since founding celador two years ago, celador has had the pleasure to host: Ahmed Saleh, Alasdair Asmussen Doyle, George Finlay Ramsay, Ana Vaz, Andrew Miller, Anthony Huberman, Antony Hudek, Brice Guilbert, Céline Mathieu, Darling Green, Dénètem Touam Bona, Filip Jakab, Francesca Hawker, Gabriel Pericàs, Harun Morrison, Ian Wallace, Jonathan Franz, Lucy Roeber, McKenzie Wark, Melissa Gordon, Nadim Choufi, Noor Abed, Natasha Soobramanien, Olivia Erlanger, Luis Ortega Govela, Olga Hohmann, Paloma Bosquê, Raimundas Malašauskas, Reinier Vrancken, and Xavier Mary.

celador has also collaborated with institutions including: A Tale of a Tub, De Singel, KANAL, Jester, WIELS, Netwerk Aalst. celador is also part of the Brussels Artist-Run Network (BARN).
