Support Cedric’s Cancer Treatment

Hello! My name is Erin and I am fundraising for my cat, Cedric.

Cedric is nine soon to be ten years old and I have had him since he was four months old. I adopted him as a 20 year old student and he has been by my side ever since, always there to greet me with a “brrrp” and a headbutt after a long day.

In February 2026, I took Cedric to the emergency vet because I noticed his breathing sounded off. X-rays revealed something in his lungs (either cancer, asthma, or bronchitis), as well as a mass in his abdomen and another in his neck. My vet warned me that it was likely cancer and we put him him on steroids for a few weeks to see how he did. He got better on steroids. We followed up with our vet after four weeks and since he responded to steroids, she referred me to an internal medicine specialist to get a diagnosis and possibly discuss chemo.

In the few days between his check up and his specialist appointment, he started eating less and throwing up. He lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time and I was nervous that we had waited too long and that this was it. I had never seen him sick like that before and it was scary and hard to witness. He was hiding a lot and not acting like his usual curious self at all.

The internal medicine vet diagnosed him with large cell lymphoma via ultrasound and fine needle aspirate. Large cell lymphoma is a fast moving cancer that thankfully is responsive to chemotherapy. I decided to start chemotherapy since without it, he only had weeks left. With it, the vet estimates that he has a 90% chance of remission. Remission for large cell lymphoma can on average 1-2 years with some cats going for longer. Most cats do not experience any side effects from chemotherapy and given that neither of us were ready to say goodbye, it seemed like a no brainer.

At the time of writing this, we are on our second week of chemotherapy and the improvement so far has been incredible. Cedric is back to being himself, eating lots of food, giving sass, and playing with his sister. Very promising early signs with no noticeable side effects. He also tolerates the weekly car ride and vet appointments well.

Unfortunately, chemotherapy is expensive and while I am happy to do this for him, it is a huge financial strain. I have had to cancel trips to visit family and I am currently working part-time on the weekends in addition to having a full time day job to even come close to affording it. Furthermore, after this course of chemo is done in July, he will need a lot of monitoring for the rest of his life which will add up over time.

I am hoping to raise funds to help offset the cost of his chemotherapy (just over $5000 CAD) and subsequent follow-up appointments which will consist of vet exams, bloodwork, and ultrasounds several times a year ($500 CAD - $1000+ CAD per appointment depending on what he needs at that time). Anything donated to this GoFundMe will be used directly to cover Cedric’s vet bills.

Cedric truly is my soul cat. He has had such a good life and still has so much life left to live. He is the kindest cat I’ve ever met and loves both people and other animals alike (my favourite thing about him). Throughout his life, he has lived with dogs, other cats (even a hairless cat), fish, and rats, all of which he showed nothing but kindness and curiosity towards. He also enjoys watching videos of horses on TV and slow blinking at them (possibly a barn cat in another life). He does not have a mean bone in his body. To know him is to love him.

It pains me that he has to go through this but I am committed to doing everything I can to keep him comfortable and give him as many good, healthy days as possible. It’s the least I can do for him after everything he has done for me.

I appreciate anything that people are willing to donate, every little bit counts. ❤️

PS. Cedric and I are both Swifties so Taylor Swift if you see this, we love you
