On Friday, May 24th, my mother and I received a call from Northwestern Medicine Central Dupage hospital that my 17 year old sister, Ceci Dang had just been admitted. That same night she was transferred into Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to get a brain scan and see the details of her injury. She spent 3 nights and 4 days here. Ceci was originally supposed to undergo head surgery which would lower her chances of survival, but luckily this was not the case. The doctors decided to just drain the excess blood from her head, but this didn’t end up happening either. All this was a result of her getting struck in the head by a Golfball hit at full speed by a teenage boy. Ceci and her cousin ran into some teenagers they knew from another school and were chatting in the parking lot. One teenager had a golf club and was swinging it around. He was just practicing with no ball and was just hitting at the ground. Suddenly, a friend of Ceci’s cousin noticed him grabbing something in his car (we assume it was the golf ball) and he proceeded to place it on the ground and swing at a crowd of people without warning. This struck Ceci above her right ear on the side of her head, and resulted in all this. She has been emotionally traumatized with the fact she has to spend 6-8 weeks at home. She also needs to have a check in every 2 weeks so doctors can analyze her recovery progress. However, this is the majority of her summer. There is no way for her to do the things she loves/was planning to do. Some of these things include hanging out with friends, going to the gym, and working to save money for her future. Ceci feels isolated at home and lost the opportunity of being able to save money. With that in mind, please try to find sympathy in your hearts to see where my sister is coming from, and try to imagine if it was you, your kid, your sibling, or anyone you care about. As she is nearing adulthood, her limitation of being able to work has given her a fear of being set back. This stress can easily be a triggering factor for possible seizures, which has become a concern of mine. Out of mine and our families love for her, we hopes for the generosity of her community around her to help make up for these inconveniences. Thank you and God bless you all!
