In February 2024, my sister Cece was diagnosed with ovarian clear cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. For the past year she has sought to treat it and underwent two surgeries at Mayo Clinic, followed by consistent surveillance scans. However, in March 2025 a CT scan revealed that the cancer had spread. What began as ovarian cancer had spread to her liver, kidney, spleen, bladder, colon, uterus, and other areas throughout her abdomen. This prompted a third, more intensive, open abdomen surgery, performed on April 1st, to remove 24 sites of metastatic cancer.
Cece's surgeon at Mayo Clinic was absolutely fantastic and able to remove all visible signs of disease, but also had to remove all her reproductive organs (full hysterectomy). Recovery from such an extensive surgery takes about six weeks. While she is deeply grateful for this time to heal, most of it is unpaid. Even before recovery is complete, Cece will begin her six month chemotherapy regiment to continue fighting this cancer.
We have appreciated the outpouring of love and support—so many people have reached out to say they’re praying for her. She cherishes every single prayer for healing, wisdom, and strength. Many have also asked how they can help, and Cece wants to be transparent about her greatest need right now: financial support.
The impact of lost wages during recovery, including reduced work hours due to chemotherapy, has placed a heavy burden on her finances. Additionally, she plans to work with a naturopathic doctor and pursue integrative therapies alongside her chemo treatments. This approach is meant to help with managing severe side effects, but unfortunately is not covered by insurance.
Our family has been through a lot over the last few years (as many of you know) and we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts and for walking alongside Cece on this journey. Thank you for all the aid you have given, the prayers and support, kind words, flowers and of course, more plants.
