As some are already aware, our sweet Cecelia has been dealing with Selective Mutism for the past 4 years. She has made slow, steady strides but is still not fully verbal at school and a couple other select places. If you've never heard of Selective Mutism before, it is an anxiety disorder characterized by a person’s inability to speak in certain social settings such as at school, work, or in the community. It is not just shyness as some are led to believe. It was so severe when she was in preschool that she would not eat or use the bathroom for the full 6 hours she was there!
This year, in an attempt to help her overcome her SM, we have been fortunate enough to get her into a coveted spot in BU's Brave Bunch summer program. This week long intensive has helped many children with SM and we hope that participating in it will be the boost Cecelia needs. Unfortunately however the program is not covered by health insurance which is why I am setting up the GoFundMe to help cover the cost.
I hope you will consider making a donation so that Cecelia can receive the help she deserves. She has been working on being brave for years and this is her chance to really shine!
