I never imagined I’d be in this position but I’m reaching out for help. This month my daughter, Caya, is facing a brain surgery at Mayo Clinic to treat Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN), a rare, progressive and excruciating neurological condition. This condition affects just 4 out of every 100,000 people annually, making it one of the most rare and agonizing conditions in medicine.
TN is a severe nerve disorder that affects the fifth cranial nerve, which is responsible for transmitting sensations from the face to the brain. When this cranial nerve is compressed, it causes intense, stabbing pain in one side of the face. It is widely regarded as one of the most excruciating medical disorders, often surpassing the pain of amputation without anesthesia, kidney stones, childbirth, and even gunshot wounds.
This condition has completely turned my daughter’s life upside down. What was once a normal, active life has been consumed by constant, excruciating pain that controls every aspect of her day. This intense pain is why it is nicknamed the "suicide disease," due to the crippling and overwhelming nature of the symptoms. Even simple everyday actions such as talking, eating, or feeling a light breeze can trigger several attacks. Caya has fought through this for years, trying every treatment available, but nothing has provided lasting relief.
Due to the severity of Caya's condition, we are seeking treatment at the Mayo Clinic, a world-renowned medical center known for its expertise in complex neurosurgery. Her only hope now is a craniotomy for Microvascular Decompression (MVD), a complex brain surgery where surgeons will carefully open her skull to reposition the nerves and the arteries. This procedure is high-risk but offers the best chance at giving Caya her life back.
Unfortunately, the financial burden of this surgery on our family is overwhelming. Between medical expenses, travel costs, post-surgical care, and time away from work, we are struggling to cover everything. That’s why we’re reaching out for support from our community: our friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers willing to help.
Any donation, big or small, will go directly towards ensuring Caya gets the surgery and support she desperately needs. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means the world to us. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and support during this difficult time. With love and gratitude!
All donations will be received by the fundraiser’s organizer.
