Hi Everyone!
I am reaching out on behalf of my brother and myself for a very special person, our mother Cavelle. Last week, our mother was brought to the ER with some abdominal pain and shortness of breath. What we thought was just the flu turned into something much more devastating. On Sunday, November 3rd, our mother was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a type of cancer that affects the bone marrow and blood, causing the body to produce too many abnormal blood cells. It is known as an aggressive cancer. Thankfully, the doctor informed us that the mutations she has are on the lower risk side and should be easier to treat. Although it will be easier to treat, our mother will still need to undergo multiple forms of chemotherapy, blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, bone marrow biopsies, etc.
Cavelle is a single mother of 4 and a grandmother to 6. She has not had an easy life as she lost one of her sons to brain cancer in 1993 and another to a horrific motorcycle accident in 2006. She has also lost siblings and various family members to cancers including throat and stomach.
My mother was able to start chemotherapy the same day she was diagnosed. She will need to get treatment 5 days a week, which will make it impossible for her to work. With impending medical bills as well as the usual everyday expenses, we anticipate the cost will quickly become overwhelming.
We’re asking for your support to help with the financial burden that comes along with being out of work for an extended period of time and receiving chemotherapy, so that our mom can focus all her energy on her recovery and well-being. Every dollar raised will go directly towards covering medical expenses, treatments, and any additional care she may need.
Thank you for standing with our mom during this difficult time. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers and wish for a speedy recovery.
Sincerely,
Aliya Carter & Mario Otto
