Support Cathy Mitchell’s Medical Needs
My mother, Cathy Mitchell, has always been a source of strength, compassion, and kindness for everyone around her. In 2013, she was diagnosed with Devic’s Disease (Neuromyelitis Optica), a rare autoimmune condition that attacks the spinal cord and optic nerves. This disease has caused her chronic neurological pain, frequent burning sensations, vision challenges, and severe mobility loss. Over the years, she has endured multiple hospitalizations and periods where she was unable to walk. In 2016, she survived two pulmonary embolisms, a moment our family will forever see as a miracle. Then in 2022, she suffered extreme muscle weakness that left her completely unable to walk. For the past four years, Cathy has been bed bound, relying first on family and now fully on me as her full-time caregiver.
Despite everything she has faced, Cathy’s spirit remains unshaken. She is a woman of deep faith, believing wholeheartedly that even in the hardest seasons, God provides strength and purpose. Before her illness, she was known for her generosity—helping anyone she could, giving freely, and finding joy in serving others. Accepting help has been one of the most difficult parts of her journey, but her resilience and humility continue to inspire.
Today, Cathy urgently needs a new medical-grade rolling air mattress. Her current one no longer inflates properly, leaving her on a thin gel mattress that does not protect her from pressure sores or provide adequate comfort. For someone who is completely bed bound, this type of mattress is essential to her health, safety, and quality of life. We are also seeking support for her monthly incontinence supplies, which are vital to her care. Any contribution—no matter the size—will directly help improve my mom’s comfort, dignity, and daily well-being. Thank you for supporting Cathy and supporting us through this challenging chapter.
