Support Catherine's Missions to LA & Belize

Hello!

My name is Catherine Weatherwax and I am wrapping up my sophomore year at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. I have been studying Political Theory and Philosophy, and also been involved in the University Honors Program. It is a very dynamic community in which I have been given the opportunity to be involved in a Cappella, Student Government, and Campus Ministry. Being a member of this community has helped me grow in my faith, in friendship with people who have the same values as me, and in a newfound desire to share my faith with others.

For this reason, I have been invited to participate in two mission trips: a spring break mission to Los Angeles, and a summer mission trip to Belize! The purpose of these missions is two-fold: to share the Gospel with others, and to live out the Gospels in a literal way ourselves. In Los Angeles, we will stay in the heart of the city and spend time serving those who are homeless as well as those who have left gangs and are looking to reform their lives. Our efforts will bring Christ to each person we meet, acting as a reminder that God is present in the deepest hardship.

In Belize, we will be staying at a parish in San Ignacio and each day, we will go out, like Jesus commands in the Gospel, in groups of three, to visit homes within walking distance around the parish. These home visits are a beautiful opportunity to revitalize the parish community: to reach the lost sheep and invite them home. The home visits consist of praying together, sharing our own testimonies of how we have encountered God in our lives, and lastly, inviting each person to a 3-night retreat that we will host at the parish at the end of the two weeks.

I want to go on these mission trips because service has always been a source of joy for me, and I had such an incredible experience on my mission to Guatemala last spring. I think that I will grow in my confidence sharing my story of conversion, and I want to be challenged in my connection with those brothers and sisters in Christ serving beside me.

I wanted to invite you to support me in these mission trips, and in turn, directly support the work of evangelization that will take place. The total cost of the mission trips per person is $1,800, and this money solely goes towards the plane tickets, and the cost of food and transportation while in Los Angeles and Belize. Any amount would be greatly appreciated, and so I ask that you prayerfully consider whether you would like to contribute to my mission trip fund.
