I'm raising funds for Catherine and her battle with ApoA1 Familial Amyloidosis. Catherine was diagnosed at 16 with this extremely rare genetic disease which also plagued her mother and sister. This disease causes her liver to produce proteins that cannot be used in her body and are sent to other organs (starting with the kidneys) where they build up and begin to calcify and essentially shut down the organ. Catherine's kidneys have already been affected. Catherine knew she needed to advocate for herself for a liver transplant. Due to the rare nature of the disease; there isn't an established protocol in the healthcare industry for her to follow so she has spent an incredible amount of time and effort trying to figure out what she has to do to receive a transplant. Just recently Catherine has made a breakthrough in her transplant journey and has been listed as Status Zero, after one more appointment she can be upgraded to Status 1 (active) meaning she can receive a transplant at any time from a deceased donor. Amazingly, Catherine has a friend who selflessly volunteered to be a living donor, if he is determined to be a match the process will speed up significantly. Catherine has a long and costly road of her in her transplant journey; the cost of the air ambulance to Edmonton, the 3 month stay in hospital after the transplant, cost for her support system (husband and daughter) to stay and visit with her in hospital and their travel back and forth to Saskatchewan, the potential for medical issues to arise. Please help ease this financial stress for her to she can focus on getting and being well to enjoy life with her husband and young daughter
