On 5/22, Catastrophe started vomiting and continued to vomit for the next two days. I took her to UrgentPet 5/24 for them to give her a laxative after I disclosed she had an history of being constipated and sent her home after charging me $160.
5/23 the vomiting continued so I took her to a proper emergency vet. After X-rays, blood work and a urinalysis it was determined she has megacolon and a UTI. They administered an enema, gave medication for the UTI and nausea. This visit and diagnostic testing cost a total of $1252.88.
In January of 2023 she was diagnosed with feline hyperesthesia. This is a neurological condition that required her to have gabapentin every twelve hours.
During the time she’s been vomiting, I noticed it was happening immediately after receiving her gabapentin, sometimes within minutes. Initially we thought the nausea was due to the UTI but now that it’s been managed with the medication and the timing of the vomiting is too close to the administration of medication every single time for it to be a coincidence. We’re in double digits for the amount of times it had made her sick. I finally got the go ahead from her vet to get her off her gabapentin and on to a new medication to trial, Amitriptyline. Today’s visit just to check for if the UTI was still present (it is because she was getting the UTI med along with the gabapentin some days and couldn’t keep it down), getting a now injectable medication for the UTI, new medication cost $301.08.
I am beginning to drown in vet bills.
She has a follow up appointment to make sure the UTI is gone on 6/14 and check to see if the medication is working which is what the extra money is for, anticipation for the next visit. I have my own health issues and I am out of PTO and have had to take time off for a chronic illness so my paychecks have been short.
I’ve had her since she was 12 weeks old. She was the reason I woke up multiple times over the 5 years I’ve had her. I’m trying to give her the best care I can because I know she deserves it.
