Update from Cassie 4/24/25:
“We had a beautiful baby boy! Braylon Gerardo Evans was earth side on April 17th at 12:29pm. He weighed in at a whopping 4lb 4.5oz and was 19.5” long. He’s currently in the NICU, but he’s a champ just like his mama! He’s growing every day and getting closer and closer to being at home with the rest of us and meeting his big brother!
Now that Braylon is here the real work begins! I am now 7 days postpartum and currently sitting in the infusion center. They have added 2 new therapies to my treatment. They are targeted to specific markers presented on my cancer cells. I’ve had a recent CT scan. The doctor said it’s hard to interpret the results because the initial MRI is so different from the CT, so we are just going to focus on how I’m feeling and move forward from there.
Aside from the pain from giving birth, I feel surprisingly energized and happy. I am also feeling extremely grateful. The way that my tribe has come together to be there for me during this time has truly been a comfort. How can I be down when I’ve got all these people to lift me up?! The side effects from chemo have been minor. I’ve had some muscle spasms and a little nausea, but they all subside after a couple days. I figure if this is as bad as it’s going to get then treatment is gonna be a piece of pie!
My feelings of gratitude are present everyday. Know that your messages are received and though I may not reply my heart smiles with every one. I love you guys! I’ll see you soon!
Love,
Cassie”
From Cassie-
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce I have been diagnosed with stomach cancer. I was admitted to the hospital on February 21st because my hemoglobin was extremely low. I had an endoscopy on the 25th where they found a lesion in my stomach. My care was then transferred to UCSF Mission Bay where the baby and I received the most comprehensive care from the best doctors.
I feel safe and I feel hopeful. I am young and healthy and I am fighter. It’s going to be a journey, but I know that with everyone’s support and with my family by my side it’s all going to be ok. Mind over matter! I miss you guys! I love you all!”
Cassie is home now and proceeding with chemotherapy out patient. She and the baby continue to be monitored closely! Once the baby is here, she will be working closely with her oncology team to figure out next steps be it more aggressive chemo or surgery. Cassie’s positive attitude continues to shine brightly! Let’s do what we can to help her and her family!
