In June, Cassie Austin entered the hospital for what was expected to be a routine surgery. But what followed was every family's worst nightmare. Complication after complication arose, and Cassie was airlifted to URMC, where she has remained in critical condition for over six weeks — fighting for her life every single day.
To date, Cassie has endured 11 surgeries and has spent the majority of this time in a medically induced coma. A recent attempt to bring her out of sedation led to a rapid decline, and she is now being placed back into a coma for her safety and survival.
Her husband, Buster, hasn’t left her side. Their family — including five children and two beloved bonus kids — are holding on tightly, trying to stay strong while their world is turned upside down. Cassie's mother and close friends are doing everything they can to support the kids, keep spirits up, and navigate a crisis no family can truly prepare for.
Doctors have made it clear: if Cassie pulls through, her road to recovery will be long and incredibly difficult.
We’re asking for help — not just for today, but for the long haul ahead. Cassie and Buster’s family is now facing:
Significant lost income, with Buster unable to work
Ongoing travel and lodging expenses to be near the hospital
Daily costs of caring for seven children during a time of uncertainty
And rapidly accumulating medical bills, many of which are not fully covered by insurance
Any amount you can give — whether it’s $5 or $500 — will help lift this overwhelming burden from their shoulders and let them focus on what matters most: Cassie’s healing and her children’s well-being.
And if you aren’t able to give right now, please share this page and keep the Austin family in your heart.
With gratitude,
