Casimir (Cas-mere) is a loving, lax older cat. He's still getting used to his new younger sister, so he's been having some grumpy old man moments recently. All his life he's been a little velcro kitty to his dad, and loves following from room to room. When it's bedtime, he'll bring us his favorite toys to let us know. He accepted his second dad into his life immediately, despite having been shy around any past strangers. He has so much love to give, and a very loving family to return just as much of it. He's especially vocal, and you can nearly have a whole conversation with him. Sometimes both him and his sister will interject with incredulousness that someone other than them is getting attention.
Cas has always loved food, he has been given slow feeder plates to curb his appetite, but the boy loves to eat. Sadly. earlier this month, May 2025. Cas very strangely began to avoid food. Dry and wet alike, he also wouldn't drink. If he did manage a few bites, moments later he would shake his head and begin to act like he'd eaten something foul. He exhibited no discharge or drooling, but his breath was foul. Whenever he acted this way he would rush to find somewhere to hide and stay there for hours. If we tried to bring him food or water in his hiding spots to leave with him away from his sister, he would greet us with those heartbreaking "im in pain" sort of meows. This behavior came and went over the days leading to his vet visit. For such a cuddly cat this was worrying unusual and both of us began to theorize what we thought his discomfort could be caused by; a new food? he ate a bad bug, as he likes to do? a loose tooth? Is something in his food causing asthma flareups without an attack? this is the same food he's been on though, what's changed?
The vet, unlike us, was able to get a look into his mouth once he was brought in. Casimir is exhibiting signs of Stomatitis. It was also discovered he has a heart murmur, but the vet believes that may simply be situational, as he was clearly, and understandably, distressed at the vet. His canines seem to be doing fine - though he's missing a few incisors. The worst of the inflammation is so bad that neither the vet nor the assisting nurses could properly judge how many of his 'cheek' teeth were even present, they were overrun by the inflammation. There was also vile discharge coming from the inflammation, which was clearly the source of the smell and would explain his reaction when eating or avoidance of water -they both would cause him to taste the discharge.
Given their findings, the vets prescribed him Prednisolone, as shown in one of the photos. Unfortunately even with the aid of this pill, he still has a drastically reduced appetite from his usual. However, he is readily drinking water now. His moments of visible discomfort have severely dropped in occurrence, but they still happen. When they do, Cas begins to act scared of his food and will not continue eating. He is also on Gabapentin for his pain, but as that bottle doesn't feature his name (and the photo limit) I've omitted it.
It is more than likely that all of Casimir's 'cheek' teeth are going to have to come out for his condition to improve in the long run. Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty of the true condition of his cheek teeth, and his unwillingness to allow a close enough look, there's no solid estimation for the price, as it varies depending on how many extractions will happen. I've set the goal to the maximum cost his procedure can reach, and any excess funds will go towards his future vet visits, as a senior cat. Hopefully outside of check-ups there will be few of those, but as a senior with asthma, there's no saying for sure.

Thank you for taking the time to read all of that - we appreciate your time and attention. If you cannot afford to donate - sharing helps just as much. Cas's surgery will be scheduled soon, and once there is a solid date, I will update the campaign with the date. But I will leave it open for a bit after. There is a down payment of $200 upon scheduling that will be deducted from the final amount. For the time that this campaign is open after his surgery, I will add proof of his final bill.
Thank you again! <3
