Support Casey's Recovery
Hi Friends,
On Monday August 16th, Casey went to the emergency room with severe chest pain, shortness of breath, and a high fever. The doctors preformed a CT scan which uncovered a mediastinal mass, chest inflammation, and fluid around his heart. After being in the emergency room for twelve hours he became increasingly unstable and was admitted to the ICU.
In the ICU his blood pressure continued to deteriorate and he experienced something called cardiac tamponade, which had caused his body to go into shock. The fluid surrounding his heart put so much pressure on his heart that he was unable to get enough blood flow to his organs, causing damage to his liver and kidneys. Luckily this damage is not permanent and his organs are already healing well.
After four days in critical condition in the ICU, with the help of a chest drain tube, a central line to get drugs directly to his heart, and lots of excellent care from the doctors and nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital his condition stabilized. He was transferred to the step down unit and continued to recover there over three days until he was finally discharged and was able to come home last night.
All of the diagnostic testing he received while in the hospital turned up inconclusive, so there are still a lot of unknowns. While his final diagnosis is still unclear, he will be following up over the next month for more testing, and hopefully they'll be able to get to the bottom of this soon.
He was in the hospital for a total of seven days, and will be recovering at home for the next two to three weeks. Luckily he has great insurance and medical bills are not an issue at the moment, but without much of a safety net, being out of work for up to a month could set him back quite a bit. He needs our help to make sure this physical setback isn't also a huge financial setback. Please consider donating so that Casey can focus on recovering without being burdened with financial stress.
Thank you to everyone for keeping Casey in your thoughts over the last week. Please continue to send love, and donate if you are able!
