My name is Casey, and I’ve always prided myself on being independent. For years, I worked as an EMT and was a six-sport athlete, pushing my body to its limits to help others and stay active. Unfortunately, all that wear and tear caught up with me, and at just 34, I found myself needing emergency back surgery. The doctors discovered a large bulging disc in my lower back that had created a tear in the Dura around my spinal cord. The surgery was urgent, and while I’m grateful it happened in time, it left me with half of my foot temporarily paralyzed, constant tingling, and weakness in my leg. I now rely on a walker to get around, and my recovery will take months.
Before this, I was already on disability and just barely managing to keep up with bills and rent. Now, with mounting medical expenses and the added blow of car troubles right after returning home from the hospital, I’m facing more than I can handle alone. My car is essential for getting around, especially since I live in a place where snow can make travel dangerous, and I need to be prepared for when I can drive again.
I’m usually stubborn and don’t like to ask for help, but right now, I’m struggling. Any support—no matter how small—would mean the world to me as I work toward healing and regaining my independence. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering a donation. Your kindness and generosity will help me cover medical bills, everyday expenses, and car repairs during this difficult time.
