Help Support Casey Curtsinger’s Recovery Journey!

On Thursday, July 31, our beloved Casey Curtsinger suffered a fall, which led to a traumatic brain injury (TBI) as well as multiple fractures to the face and skull that changed life for him and his family in an instant. He was rushed to University of Louisville Hospital Emergency Room and was later admitted on Friday, August 1 and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he remained under critical care as his family stood by his side, praying and supporting him every step of the way.

For those initial 12 days in the ICU, Casey was able to breathe on his own without assistance but was heavily sedated as doctors and staff worked tirelessly to keep him stabilized. In the last two days of his ICU stay, Casey slowly started regaining consciousness and began to speak a few words.

After two challenging weeks in the ICU, Casey was transferred to UofL Frazier Rehabilitation Institute on Thursday, August 14, where he currently continues the long and difficult journey of recovery. At Frazier, Casey is now relearning the basic skills of life — speaking, thinking, walking, eating and other daily activities. This will be a gradual process that will take time, patience, and enormous effort, but Casey is showing determination every day.

Casey’s wife, Jessica, his primary caretaker, has devoted herself to his daily needs while balancing the challenges of home life. Both Jessica and their daughter, Bailey, a bright and loving 13-year-old who recently began her 8th grade year at St. Athanasius, have been incredible examples of strength and optimism during this difficult time. Family members from both sides have been helping however they can, but the road ahead is long.

Casey is employed at Clark Material Handling Co., but due to his injury he is unable to return to work and will not be able to for quite some time. Jessica is employed at Heaven Hill Brands and has just recently begun working from home when possible in order to balance caring for Casey and their daughter. This new reality will understandably cause significant financial strain for the family.

As you can imagine, the financial burden of unexpected medical emergencies like this is overwhelming. Between hospital stays, rehabilitation, ongoing therapies and the uncertain future of Casey’s recovery, the medical bills have already begun to arrive and will likely continue for the foreseeable future.
