Help Support Casandra & Her Service Dog, Mowgli
Most of you know Casandra’s story, but many may not realize how her diagnosis continues to affect her today and the new challenges it has created. Casandra’s journey over the past seven years has been marked by unimaginable strength, perseverance, and hope. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, she endured an eight-hour brain surgery for partial removal. Because the tumor is located on her brain stem and cerebellum, it could not be completely removed without causing life-threatening complications. In the early stages of her diagnosis, Casandra also battled severe hydrocephalus—a buildup of fluid on the brain—which required immediate treatment. Over the years, she has undergone countless MRIs, blood draws, and doctor appointments to monitor her condition and ensure the tumor remains stable. In addition to her brain surgery, Casandra also required eye surgery after the tumor damaged the muscle responsible for eye movement, leading to ongoing vision challenges. Despite everything she’s endured, she continues to face each day with grace, determination, and faith. Her most recent scan showed no tumor growth, and we are incredibly thankful. However, Casandra still lives with the lasting effects of her diagnosis, including balance issues, severe ADHD, and social anxiety. These challenges make it difficult for her to be in crowds, public places, or even complete everyday tasks that most of us take for granted. Through it all, her loyal dog Mowgli has been by her side, offering comfort, calm, and unconditional love. Mowgli has already helped her feel safer and more at ease during moments of anxiety, and with specialized service dog training, he will be able to help her even more. Once trained, Mowgli will learn to: Provide deep pressure therapy during panic attacks or heightened anxiety. Act as a social buffer in overwhelming environments. Recognize and respond to Casandra’s unique physical and emotional needs. Mowgli will help Casandra feel more comfortable and confident whether she’s out and about, in the hospital, or even just running errands—giving her the freedom to experience life with a renewed sense of safety and peace. We don’t often ask for help, but this is so important, and we are asking now—for Casandra and Mowgli.
