Hi. My name is Carrie and I love animals. There are literally dozens and dozens of stray cats in my neighborhood. In an effort to try and control the pet population, my husband and I started what we are now calling Carrie’s Kitty Cabin. Here’s a quick synopsis of how it started. The city tore down a bunch of homes in the neighborhood a few years ago and the cat population exploded! We started feeding one of them before we realized we were actually feeding her and her 5 kittens. We built a small shelter, then a bigger one... and a bigger one. This year we literally built a cabin on the side of our house for the neighborhood strays. (Check out our Facebook page at the link below and see what we’ve done). We are not a rescue or shelter, so to speak, but we offer them fresh water, food, and shelter with bins of straw. We even have heat lamps to keep them warm in the winter. It’s cozy and warm and always is a place to find sustenance. We’ve caught quite a few, had them fixed, and found them homes.

Unfortunately, it’s spring/summer time and this is the time they reproduce. Last Friday we were able to catch one of the kittens (she’s not even a year old) who became pregnant and I’m certain there will be more, as we just found another small kitten today. We will keep this new momma safe, warm, and well-fed until her babies are born. Then we will take care of them, as we did last year with another cat who gave birth. We will take them to the vet, have them spayed/neutered, and find them loving furever homes. Unfortunately, none of this is done for free and my husband and I spend a lot of our own money taking care of them. We have great friends who have helped us in the past and we are hoping we can get some of that support again. We are looking to raise between $600 - $1000. This will cover momma's vet visits, food, care of the kittens for the twelve weeks they will be with us, and for their vaccines, medications, and vet charges at their first check-up, as well as spaying and neutering.

If any donations remain when all is said and done, we will use that for the ongoing food and care of the cats who visit Carrie’s Kitty Cabin every day.
