On New Year's morning, my cousin Carrie, her fiancé, and their two children were involved in a severe car accident.
Carrie sustained multiple injuries, including two broken legs in multiple places as well as a broken ankle and kneecap, a laceration on her forehead that required several stitches, and a broken right arm.
Her fiancé suffered a broken femur, a broken ankle, and some minor spinal injuries.
Their 9-year-old daughter experienced a broken femur which required a rod and screws, as well as a fracture to her C11 vertebra, which required spinal surgery and the placement of rods and screws. She will also require a back brace for continued support. Also, due to the seatbelt she sustained injuries to her lower right abdomen. Those injuries include a torn diaphragm muscle, which was required to be stitched back together and the removal of her right kidney.
Fortunately, their infant son came through incident minor bruising. He is doing great.
This family is now facing a long and challenging road to recovery, which will include multiple ongoing surgeries, physical therapy and continual medical care. In light of their situation, it has been asked to set up this GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses, household bills, and other essential needs as they prepare to return home within the weeks to come and will be unable to work for some time.
Any donation, no matter the size, would be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to contribute financially, we kindly ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate the difficult months ahead.
