Support Carriacou's Recovery from Hurricane Beryl

"We need everything. As soon as possible."

You might have heard of the island of Carriacou before today. Maybe you've vacationed there, lived there, sailed there, or dreamed of visiting its crystal blue waters. Or maybe you are only hearing about it today after a devastating category 4 hurricane ripped through on July 1st.

Either way, the people of Carriacou need your support.

Hurricane Beryl tore through the small island at 150 mph, the strongest in history to hit the island. Within 30 minutes, the 12 square mile island was flattened. Homes, businesses, fishing boats, crops, and livestock have been destroyed for the 10,000 locals on the island. "All this is gone. Gone."

Communication channels and electricity were wiped out, but from what is known so far, homes need to be rebuilt, roofs need to be repaired, and people need basic supplies. As a small island, most food, clothing, toiletries, baby and household items are shipped in and in very limited supply on a regular day. Now it'll be even harder to access these supplies. "I just pray that many people throughout this world will come to our rescue and our aid. We need food, materials, tarps, we need many things to get back on our feet."

We are raising money to provide direct aid to the people of Carriacou.

This means any money you donate will buy supplies quickly and be delivered directly to the people who need it. We are two women who previously lived in the beautiful island of Grenada (Carriacou is part of Grenada), and have friends living in Carriacou. We know many people want to help, so we have created this page to collect monetary donations that will be used to purchase gift cards for people to purchase supplies in Grenada, as well as directly purchase supplies to be shipped in barrels to Carriacou through air cargo shipping. We will use local suppliers as much as possible (especially for building materials) to enable even faster access to supplies and to support Grenadian businesses. We will work with our local friends to receive and distribute supplies. The goal is to raise $10,000 to cover gift cards, supplies and shipping of household and toiletry items, and $10,000 to donate building materials to those who need it most.

For reference, based on previous experience, the cost of shipping one barrel is estimated at $200 (including customs). We will update this estimate with actual numbers once we know more.

There is a need for diapers, toiletries, tarps, camping stoves, blow up mattresses, tools, tents, clothing, portable showers, solar charging devices and lights, flashlights, batteries, building materials, etc. We will update this list and process here as we learn more and communication channels are open again.

Although this will not be easy, as the locals in the video below say, "We got life.", "We are strong, we will rebuild." and "Not dwelling on what has happened, but dwelling on how we go forward.".

Let's move forward together.
