Friends and family we need your support!
Carolyn is a an amazing woman. She is a mother to one amazing daughter and a Mimi (grandmother) to 5 amazing grandchildren. She is a small business owner who enjoys her time with friends and family! She has a positive attitude despite the cards she has been dealt, and her story below will tell you just how AMAZING she really is! We are so glad that we are not doing this alone! We have our Lord and all of you. Thank you so much for the prayers, messages, positive thoughts and any assistance you can provide.
Her journey began in February of 2018 when doctors found tumors in a scan of her uterus. The doctors promptly advised that the best course of action was to have a hysterectomy. On February 15, 2018 doctors completed this surgery and found multiple tumors that were deemed cancerous.
In May of 2018, during routine follow-up scans, doctors noticed that there were three tumors that had metastasized to over 13cm at which point chemo therapy was recommended. In the months following the start of chemo Carolyn suffered a blood clot in her neck that severely impaired her mobility, and in December of 2018 she was told she likely only had months to live.
When January of 2019 started, doctors performed molecular testing on the tumors to find that the diagnosis given was not the correct one. At this point, Carolyn was diagnosed with ALK+ IMT (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) (Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor), to which doctors were able to prescribe a treatment plan that over the course of two years melted away the tumors and all signs pointed in a positive direction. Finally in 2021 we were given the ALL CLEAR!
Sadly, in November of 2021, scans showed a recurrence at which point doctors had to remove a section of intestine.
Fortunately for two years after this surgery, scans were looking good, showing no new masses, and no recurrence!
SADLY in February of 2024, scans showed that FIVE new tumors had become present in the stomach all of which have doubled in size over the past three months. It looks like surgery will be inevitable at this time. As a small business owner, with a prior history of cancer, insurance will not cover all of the costs. This procedure alone is likely to run in the $6-10k range with a current debt of over $3k in medical costs.
We are so glad and so blessed to have amazing friends and family to support her.
