So many of us have been loved on by my mom, Carolyn McArthur, and we now have an opportunity to show her and my dad some love and support as they’re facing a significant challenge in my mom’s health. If you know my mom you know she has been living with a painfully locked jaw for 20 years, and despite lots of support and a myriad of interventions, she continues to face daily struggles to eat, talk, and swallow. The constant pressure and tension in her mouth has taken its toll and she recently got into a specialized dentist who said her case is the worst she’s seen. After extensive testing it has been found that mom will need bone grafts, gum surgery, crowns, posts, bridges, etc. over the next few months, and if that wasn’t enough, was quoted an estimate of $100,000 as a starting number . . And the insurance my parents have will cover 0%.
This course of action has been carefully considered and recommended by mom’s medical team and there is a hope that this extensive treatment could actually help mom’s overall function of her jaw and quality of life. We would love my mom to be able to focus on getting the help she needs, using her energy for the surgeries and healing, and not feel the financial stress she’s already felt for so many years.
Our parents completely trust God and His provision financially, physically, and emotionally, and their hope is not in this world or this body. We also know we are all part of a community that loves and supports each other - and I can’t count how many times over the years I’ve heard “I wish there was something I could do for your mom,” so here’s our chance!
We know our parents and know they would never ask (that’s why we didn’t ask their permission!). So, from their kids, thank you. Thank you for considering, for sharing, and being a part of this God-sized answer to prayer. We can’t wait to see what God will do!!
*Because of mom's unique and challenging health circumstances, dentures aren't an option for her, and neither are cost saving approaches like getting the work done at a dental school or in Mexico. Her situation is complex and we trust the recommended treatment plan.
*If you have any questions, please contact one of us as we want mom and dad using their energy to make medical treatment decisions, heal, and continue to live beautifully full lives!
