Welcome to Carol’s Senior Pet Sanctuary. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization located in Bayport NY.
For our new followers that don't know us, Our mission is as follows:
Carol’s provides a safe and loving environment for all dogs who have been abandoned, abused or neglected. We are dedicated to providing quality care for all animals while we help them find their forever homes. We believe that every dog deserves a second chance at life. We try our best to help any dog in need no matter the state, city, or country they currently inhabit. We accept all dogs in need no matter their age, temperament, or health condition. With our volunteers, we ensure that their days are filled with love, comfort, compassion, and enrichment.
Many of the dogs that have come our way in recent months are owner surrenders and pulled from the euthanasia list at municipal shelters. All the ones we choose to help are the underdogs with medical needs. While individual owner expenses are increasing, so are ours. Costs keep going up from food, to medical, to utilities. Unfortunately a sanctuary is not free to operate.
We have been able to rehome many dogs into loving families who came to us in dire need the past 13 years. In the past 6 months alone, we have had 102 Dog Adoptions and 3 Cat Adoptions with an additional 7 Adoptions Pending. We consistently care for 60 dogs at all times. When one dog finds their forever family another one takes his spot immediately. Atlantic Coast Veterinary Hospital of Bohemia and Grady’s Animal Hospital of Sayville have literally been lifesavers for All of our furbabies. We are beyond grateful for their compassion and help which enabled the pups to find forever families. Many of our followers forget that though we are blessed to have found so many of them homes, the cost of their medical care still needs to be paid. Several life saving surgeries and all medical care have had partial or nominal payments and our vets continue to help. As the New Year approaches, please consider contributing to the lifesaving care that these fabulous veterinarians have graciously provided, as they share in our same mission.
Please think about Rescue work not being free. Everyday I get a call from someone that wants to get paid. I have been told by many people even though it's Carols mission they don't help animals for free. Rent, electric, insurance, garbage pick up, transport, medication, surgery, food, supplis, and day/night of care adds up. With the number of animals in need of help continuing to rise, our medical bills and operating expenses have been growing faster than ever. We never want to turn away a dog in need, and with your support, we don’t have to. Your donations and commitment to volunteering allow us to keep our doors open, keep animals safe, and continue saying “yes” to the dogs who have no one else.
We have taken from personal investments, increased credit lines, and took out loans to handle the influx of community requests for help with owner surrendered pets. We have also had amazing support with walking and playing with our furbabies. So many volunteers give their time, even taking a pup overnight or on an outing for the day. This is all much appreciated by our routine volunteers and our doggies.
In order to continue helping animals in 2026, we need financial assistance and a continuous flow of committed volunteers who share in the same mission.
The question is, do people want to be part of helping senior and disabled rescues or does it all fall on a few? You’ve all been amazing and the outpouring of help has been awesome. It is ALL ABOUT THE DOGS! A special shout out to our die hard daily volunteers of Laurie, Ginny, Dawn, Michael and Leslie. You are a big part of the backbone that holds our sanctuary together.
Please help us continue to manifest this vision through your contributions and donation of play time with our furbabies. It is so appreciated.
