A Critical Update on Carol’s Journey
What was first diagnosed as Olfactory Neuroblastoma is actually Sinonasal Teratocarcinosarcoma—an extremely rare and aggressive cancer, affecting only about one in 5 million cancer patients. This news has reshaped Carol’s treatment plan and deepened the challenges she faces.
As of 19 March 2025 she has completed the first half of her radiation treatments and will have a short break before continuing for another three and a half weeks. While her chemo protocol has helped manage some side effects, the radiation has been much harder on her body. She is experiencing severe burning in her mouth and throat, making it painful to eat, and she is losing significant weight—which is especially concerning as she was at 84 lbs and doesn’t have much to lose.
Doug, her devoted husband, has been driving her to radiation treatments five days a week at the Nugent Cancer Center in Kingman, AZ. He shared:
"Sadly, Carol has taken a few steps back. While I was able to research and prepare a holistic regime that protected her from chemo, radiation is another matter entirely. The radiation has caused a permanent sore throat and mouth, making it nearly impossible for her to eat. Prescription medication with lidocaine helps somewhat, but not enough to truly...
Amy's Letter:
In 2017, God orchestrated something extraordinary in my life. During a deep season of reflection and seeking Him, He divinely connected me with Carol and Doug in a way I could never have imagined. Their unwavering faith, strength, and love for the Lord Jesus radiated so profoundly that they became my spiritual adoptive parents.
While they have two incredible daughters who rightfully hold first place in their hearts, Carol and Doug have embraced me without hesitation as part of their extended family, reminding me with joy and certainty that they are my second parents. Their love has been a testament to God’s boundless grace and the beauty of spiritual family.
They offered to "adopt me" as their third daughter at a time when I deeply needed family. Both my parents had passed away due to complications from alcohol addiction, and I was carrying the weight of that loss. Living overseas in Asia serving as a missionary, running a foundation that empowers children and families, and now having a faith-filled family myself, yet being away from them, Carol and Doug’s love and steadfast example of faith has changed my life forever.
Yet, now, that connection has been threatened as my spiritual mom, Carol, is in the fight of her life.
Carol’s Journey
Carol has been diagnosed with (what was originally thought) a malignant brain tumor that is causing severe pain and physical challenges. The tumor has grown significantly, pressing on her face, affecting her left eye, and completely taking away her sense of smell. A new tumor has appeared on her forehead, and she endures relentless pain, often unable to sleep for days at a time.
Even in the midst of her own suffering, Carol remains a vessel of God’s love. During an MRI—where most would feel overwhelmed—she was overjoyed to worship for an hour and even took the opportunity to pray with others and share God’s love with them. This is who Carol is: a woman of unshakable faith and overflowing joy, no matter the circumstance.
Her treatment plan includes:
• A 12-hour surgery scheduled for January 6, 2024. (Became 16.5 hours)
• Follow-up radiation and chemotherapy five days a week for five weeks.
• Additional tests (PET scans, MRIs, and CT scans) to track the spread of the tumor.
While her medical team is optimistic, the journey ahead will be physically, emotionally, and financially challenging.
The Financial Need
Carol and Doug, who live solely on Social Security, are now facing an overwhelming financial burden. They’ve already paid $3,000 to secure Carol’s surgery date, and the costs of surgery, treatments, travel, and temporary housing near the hospital will quickly exhaust their limited savings.
This family has poured out their lives in service to others and has been a blessing to so many, including me. Now it’s our turn to stand with them.
How You Can Help
We are inviting you to partner with us in relieving some of the financial strain so Carol and Doug can focus fully on her healing. Your support will go directly to:
• Medical expenses (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and tests).
• Travel costs to and from Tucson for appointments and treatments.
• Lodging near the hospital during her recovery.
Every gift, no matter the size, is a blessing and a tangible expression of love and care.
A Legacy of Faith
Carol’s life is a testimony of faith in action. From her leadership at Bridge Community Church on Harstine Island and New Horizons Church of God in Shelton, Washington, to the countless lives she’s touched as a friend, wife, mother, and spiritual mentor, Carol has always been a light to others.
Even now, in this season of trial, her faith in Jesus remains unshaken. God has orchestrated divine appointments, bringing the right medical team together, and even opening doors for her to minister to others along the way.
