My name is Carolina, and today I am writing something I never imagined I would have to write. My husband, the man who has always been my strength, my protector, my best friend, my true better half, the love of my life is now fighting for his life after being diagnosed with cancer just two months ago.

Our world has been turned upside down.

Last year, he was forced into early retirement after being in a terrible car accident in 2020 that left him with permanent disabilities. He worked his entire life to provide for our family, allowing me to be a stay at home mom and raise our children because it was my greatest desire. Walking away from his job, from being the provider for his family broke his heart. But even then, he stayed strong for us, for me, for our four children, and for our four grandchildren who adore their Papa more than anything.

His cancer doctors ordered a PSMA PET scan that is essential for his treatment plan, but our insurance will only cover half. That means we have to pay out of pocket $4,751.38 + treatment expenses this is money we simply do not have. And that is only the beginning. He still has to go through radiation 4 weeks after his recent surgery that was just two weeks ago. Every doctor visit is a $115 copay, with appointments almost every week. Every time that we have to pay for these bills I can see the worry in his eyes, even when he tries to hide it from me.

We are trying to stay strong for him, but our hearts are heavy and our family is overwhelmed. Watching the person you love the most fight for his life and worry about money at the same time is a pain I cannot describe.

My husband is the center of our family. He is the kind of man who would give his last dollar to help someone else, who always puts his family first, who lights up every room he walks into sharing his dad jokes with everyone. Seeing him go through this is breaking all of us.
