My name is Melissa, and I’m asking for your help on behalf of my daughter, Carolina, who has a very tough battle ahead of her. She was recently diagnosed with a Stage 3 B rare, invasive and triple negative metaplastic breast cancer. We thought she would be going straight for surgical removal, but her medical team thinks her chances are best to start with chemotherapy ASAP.
Carolina is only 29. She and Cody were married less than a year ago and bought a house in March. She began a new job with Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA in April, and they were planning on starting a family later this year. Her doctors recommend that if she wants to have children that she retrieve eggs now before the chemo begins. Her ovaries are currently very healthy, and she’s an excellent candidate for egg retrieval and freezing. But the procedure is expensive.
Carolina and Cody are having to make decisions quickly to do what’s best to fight the cancer and to plan ahead for future children. It’s been overwhelming and stressful navigating all of the tests, procedures, and consultations with all of the different specialties while holding down a full-time job so she can keep her insurance. As a mother, it breaks my heart to see her having to go through all of this and all that is to come. My hope is that, together, we can alleviate some of that stress by reducing their financial burden.
Carolina is a fighter. She never gives up, and I have no doubt in my mind that she will win this fight. She is a caring wife and daughter, and she is fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She has worked her whole adult life for non-profit organizations. She has given tirelessly to advance worthy causes and help others succeed. And now she needs our help.
All donations will go toward:
Egg retrieval and freezing
Out-of-pocket medical treatment costs
If you can’t give, please consider sharing this page and keeping Carolina in your heart and in your prayers.
I know that many of you are familiar with and have supported my brother (Carolina’s Uncle Mark) and his complicated Stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma battle that was diagnosed in April. Cancer has really thrown a bomb in the middle of our family, but it has made us even closer, and we are so grateful to everyone who has reached out to us.
THANK YOU for supporting Carolina in any way that you can!
Melissa and Family
