Update: A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. We’ve retained legal representation, and the attorney fees are expected to be around $17,000. This amount doesn’t include the costs for Carolina and Luciano’s commissary items, phone calls, or other essentials during their detention. Carolina is a devoted mother and a cherished friend who was detained by ICE on August 19th. Her seven-year-old son, Luciano, was brought to be with her, and together they were transported to a detention center in Texas. This sudden separation from their home and community has been devastating for both of them. With a valid, US Government issued work permit, Carolina has always worked hard to provide a loving and stable environment for Luciano. He is a sweet and caring boy who loves school and has been working so hard to learn English. He loves to help his family and has the sweetest heart and smile. Their lives have been turned upside down, and the uncertainty of their future weighs heavily on them every day.

We are raising funds to cover the legal fees needed to fight Carolina’s deportation case, as well as expenses while she and Luciano are detained. If deportation becomes unavoidable, these funds will also help with relocation costs so they can rebuild their lives in a new place. The emotional toll on Carolina and Luciano is immense, and the support of friends and the community is more important than ever.
