Carolina, Portuguese dancer and Pilates trainer was diagnosed last week with stage 4 malignant bone, lung and brain tumours. The news comes as immense shock to family and friends of Carolina who have only ever known her as a young, vibrant, successful dancer. A passionate and talented woman, Carolina has an illustrious future ahead of her full of amazing adventures. For anyone who has met Carolina, I do not need to tell you what an amazing and caring person she is. She makes every room brighter and leaves everyone with a smile on their face.
Although shaken by the news, Carolina is strong! She is determined to fight this disease with everything she has and make a full recovery, but she needs your help!
Carolina is being well looked after by the nurses and doctors of Santa Marta Hospital in Lisbon and her amazing family at home. She is currently receiving treatment at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon and living with her beautiful mother. A diagnosis of this sort means that she and her family will incur many medical costs.
Thus far Carolina has come up against many roadblocks in her treatment. The drugs that she needs to fight her incredibly rare cancer are extremely new and not supported by the public health care system in Portugal. Due to the high cost of the drugs, the system assess each dispense of the drug on a case by case basis. She had to wait an entire month before she was given this life saving medication. She has had to save every dollar donated to her in case she cannot get another month's access to the drugs that may kill her cancer.
We can help alleviate the financial stress for her and her family and give Carolina every possible opportunity to win this battle. Every little bit counts and nothing is too little.
