Hi all, this is Tegan, Carole's daughter, and I'm so thankful you are taking the time to learn more about this fundraiser. We're raising money to help pay for Carole Daly's long term care due to her Alzheimer's diagnosis. She is currently living in an assisted living facility in Holmen, WI, which costs over $5,000 per month. If this sounds outrageous, just know that this is on the low end of the cost range for assisted living facilities, which can get up to about $10,000 per month. We have applied for financial assistance though Medicaid, but getting her into a Medicaid program that will cover the level of care she needs is a long and complicated process.

In December of 2023, Carole moved in with her son, Gavin, and he managed her care nearly singlehandedly until July of 2024 when he needed to step back for a number of reasons. In a nutshell, caregiving for a person with dementia is incredibly exhausting and Gavin was unable to work or even leave Carole alone for fear of her safety. I am the only other person actively helping with her care, and I am currently not able to give my mom a home. Gavin needed to get his life back and we were lucky to find a facility that had an opening only 10 minutes from his house. Her doctor and our social worker with the Aging and Disability Resource Center agree that the best place for Carole is in an assisted living facility where she can be safe, surrounded by professionals, and able to socialize and interact with a community. Neither Gavin or I am equipped to give her this.

We are currently raising money to assist in paying for her stay in the facility for August and September, which we know we have to pay out of pocket for. Carole has just recently been approved for Medicaid, however, help won't come in time to cover her September care, which is another $5,200. This will be the third time we have paid this bill out of pocket and our finances are extremely strained at this point.
